A man in his
car behind a cart pulled by a tiny mare is waiting for the traffic light to turn
green, suddenly the mare collapsed in the middle of the street causing chaos.
The teenagers
who were riding in the cart started beating the poor girl very hard to force her
to stand up but she simply couldn't. Thanks to the campaigns we have done to
stop horse maltreatment and to instruct people what to do in cases like this,
this good man dialed 101 and called the police and he also called
us.
The police
arrived in less than 10 minutes, helped the poor mare up and took her to the
precinct with a lot of difficulty; she was exhausted, in a lot of pain due to
the brutal beatings, she was terribly weak, thirsty, and hungry and could hardly
walk. The Police took the teenagers into custody.
We arrived at
Second Precinct - downtown - where this angel had been taken. The vet had
already seen her and had written the report. We pressed formal charges against
the teenagers and the Mounted Police took Elektra to Seventh Precinct where we
take all of our rescued horses for some weeks until blood tests are completed
and the veterinarian of the police can check them every day.
During their
stay at the police precinct we go every day to take food, to walk them and above
all to make them feel cared and loved for the first time in their lives.
Elektra, that is the name we have given her, will remain at the precinct for
some weeks and then she will come to live at our sanctuary where she will be
loved and cared for and where she will have other horses to get to know and have
fun with.
Un hombre en
su auto en el semáforo está ubicado detrás de un carro tirado por una yegüita,
de pronto el pobre animal se desploma sobre la calle causando un caos vehicular.
Los menores
que conducían el carro, se bajan y comienzan a golpearla con saña para que se
ponga de pie pero ella no podía. Gracias a nuestras campañas para detener el
maltrato de caballos, el hombre llama al 101 (Comando) y también nos llama a
nosotros.
La policía
llega en menos de 10 minutos, ayuda a la pobre yegüita a incorporarse con mucha
dificultad debido al cansancio, el dolor por los golpes, la debilidad, la sed,
el hambre y encima apenas podía caminar. Los menores son llevados detenidos a la
División Minoridad.
Nosotros
llegamos a la Comisaría Segunda - pleno centro - donde esta angelita había sido
llevada. El veterinario policial ya había estado y había hecho un informe.
Hicimos la denuncia formal dejando asentada la violación a la Ley Penal 14346,
la División Montada llegó y procedió a trasladar a la yegüita a Comisaría
Séptima que es donde trasladamos todos los caballos secuestrados para que le
veterinario policial tenga acceso a cualquier hora y además para que se le
realicen los análisis de sangre correspondientes.
Igualmente
nosotros vamos varias veces al día a chequearlos, llevarles alimentos,
variarlos, y por sobre todas las cosas hacerlos sentir amados y cuidados por
primera vez en sus vidas. Elektra, así es como la hemos bautizado, permanecerá
por unas semanas en la Comisaría y luego será trasladada a nuestro santuario
donde vivirá hasta el final de sus días.
This poor girl is about to collapse again. She's so very tired. Her eyes are swollen. She's only two years old and due to maltreatment she looks like an old mare.

criatura está por caer nuevamente. Está tan cansada. Sus ojos hinchados.

años de edad pero se ve como una yegüita anciana debido a los
malostratos.
These are
some of her injuries; deep wounds due to the heavy chains with which horses are
brutally tied to the carts with. These wounds need to be treated right away
otherwise they end up full of maggots.
Estas son
algunas de las heridas profundas producto de las pesadas cadenas con las que los
caballos son atados a los carros. Estas heridas deben ser tratadas
inmediatamente, de lo contrario en pocos días se convierten en miasis (heridas
con gusanos).

Yesterday we
decided not to take pictures to avoid making her nervous. Too many new faces and
places. She was given a good bath and a gentle brush and the veterinarian of the
police went by to deworm her. We went to feed her this morning and it's amazing
the way she has recovered. Two days' rest, good food and just being a
horsy has made the miracle. But she still has a long path to walk, she needs to
be socialized again since she's distrustful with human beings, she tries to kick
and bite when someone gets very close.
Ayer
decidimos no tomar fotografías para evitar que Elektra estuviera nerviosa,
tantas caras y lugares nuevos. Fue bañada, se le dio un cepillado y la
veterinaria policial la desparasitó. Esta mañana cuando fuimos a alimentarla y
la vimos, es impresionante como se ha recuperado. Un descanso de dos días, buena
alimentación y ser solo un caballito ha obrado milagros. Igualmente tiene un
largo camino por recorrer, necesita sociabilizar ya que es desconfiada con los
humanos, trata de patear y morder cuando se le acercan
mucho.
