More than 20 animal rights activists are sitting on the roof of an egg farm on the Mornington Peninsula this morning to protest against what they say are appalling conditions within the facility.

Police have been called to the Somerville Egg Farm after 22 protesters from Animal Liberation Victoria scaled the walls at 4am today.

Speaking from the top of the shed this morning, Animal Liberation Victoria president Patty Mark said the group - dressed in biohazard suits - had taken supplies with them and were prepared to remain there "for as long as it takes" until an investigation is launched into the condition of the chickens.
