Bulgaria - New Law to Protect Animals

Cruelty to animals resulting in maiming, disability or amputation will result in a jail term of one to three years, according to amendments to be considered in Bulgaria. In the case of "extreme animal cruelty", the proposed prison sentence is five years, Dnevnik said on April 15 2010.

The proposed bill envisages that "one who deliberately kills or maims an animal will be fined from 5 000 to 15 000 leva and imprisoned from one to three years".
