SOS for dogs and cats in Serbia

More than 5000 stray dogs will be killed by T-61 , at the center for inhumane killings in the southern part of Serbia; this will be conducted by JKP Medijana in the city of Nis. This is the cities garbage dump where they execute all stray animals that they capture. The promise to kill all these poor animals was made by the director of services for garbage collection in Nis, Serbia. The date that he set for the murdering of these animals is December 18-th 2006.

We need all the help that we can get to put a stop to this inhumane treatment towards stray animals in our region. We beg of you to act now before these massive animal killings begin! Because we were informed of this just recently we understand that the date is close by but if we don't act immediately it can be too late and all these helpless animals will die, that's the promise the director of garbage removal has made to the people.

We are in desperate need for all people that have it in their heart to help these animals get a chance at life to contact people/organizations/media that can put a stop to these massive killings to voice themselves for these animals getting killed.

In Belgrade, Zrenjanin and Novi Sad in the garbage dumps of these cities are also centers where they execute stray animals, now we have been informed there is a new center specifically made for the murders of stray animals.

Again we are begging for the help of everyone and anyone in the world to help these animals !

If you visit our site, we inform the public of the way the garbage dump service in Serbia are used for mass killings of animals and how the veterinary services have not done anything to stop this from happening. These killings are also done for bounty by garbage collectors who are promised money in return for each killed stray animal. In which many have made it a business for them, killing stray animals for extra income. Outrageous !!!

The government has not done anything to put a stop this !

Public prosecutors do not care to implement article 269, paragraph 2, from the Criminal Code of Serbia in which it states: anyone who uses cruelty towards animals or kills an animal in opposite to the Law of veterinary standards must be punished for up to three years in prison . These laws are not conducted and nobody is ever prosecuted for such actions in our region.

The following emails are of people that have the power in our country to put a stop to these cruel doings.

Most of the listed people are government officials that can implement the laws that exist in Serbia's Criminal Code.

Please pass this message through to all officials and media outlets that come to mind and also send emails to the following emails and let's give these helpless animals a voice that can be heard around the world, they need us to fight for their lives !

President of Serbia, Mr. Boris Tadic mrakic@predsednik.srbija.yu

Prime Minister, Mr. Vojislav Kostunica

Public Attorney General-Deputi, Mrs. Gordana Milosevic-Stojanovic

Mayor of Nis, Mr. Smiljko Kostic

Thank you for your time in this very important and devastating situation

Subject: FW: ACT NOW : NIS15.12.06.after 3 to 4 days would to begin again mass killing of 5000 stray dogs and cats in town Nis, Serbia, said director of JKP Medijana!!!!

Dear Friends,

We have sent the following e-mail (in green), as requested by EPAR. Please send something similar, the situation seems desperate and some of the e-mail addresses don't work, but please give it a try anyway.

We were sad to be informed that a new mass killing of stray dogs and cats is about to start on 18 December in South Serbia.

- Killing of stray dogs and cats is illegal in Serbia according to the Criminal Code, Article 269, paragraph 2.

- Killing of stray dogs and cats is completely unacceptable and causing disguise to every caring person in the world.

- Killing of stray dogs and cats is not a solution at all to overpopulation problems. Big scale neutering programs are much more cost effective and lead to long term solutions.

Many people in our country are informed about the current situation in Serbia and avoid your country just because of this horrible slaughter.

Therefore, we urge you to stop this mass killing plan immediately and work with local groups on neutering programs, so that you really solve the stray overpopulation problem in a humane and effective way. In Greece we have similar overpopulation problems but we have already seen results in areas we practice neuter/release programs. If you need any assistance on this we will be happy to help.

We are waiting for your answer so that we pass on the information to our members and people concerned here.
