Taipei, Sept. 11 (CNA) Animal rights activists called Tuesday for an
amendment to the Animal Protection Act to extend its protection to
strays, whose welfare has not been recognized since the law took
effect in 1998.

Local celebrities and legislators said the government does not have a
long-term plan for reducing the amount of strays or a standard
operating procedure for capturing them, which has led to inhumane
treatment.
