(US/mn) Christensen Farms under fire for alleged animal cruelty claims
Sleepy Eye, Minn. -- Christensen Farms came under fire July 17 for allegations of animal cruelty after an animal rights group released an undercover video targeting Christensen Farms and a number of large grocery retailers.
Mercy for Animals, the group that released the video, is an animal rights group that promotes "veganism." Reportedly, a Mercy for Animals staff member recorded the video while posing as an employee at Christensen Farms from December 2011-March 2012.
The video, released Wednesday and narrated by Bob Barker, shows pregnant sows in gestation crates, the castration of piglets and docking of their tails reportedly without anesthetics and the killing of sick or injured piglets by use of blunt force trauma.
