(US/md) The elephant in the room: Protesters gather for circus's opening night The Cole Bros. Circus could see a different kind of attraction again today -- protesters demonstrating against the show. Animal rights activists gathered Wednesday at the entrance of the Frederick Fairgrounds; they were hard to miss. Protesters held up large signs stamped with such phrases as "the circus is no fun for animals." Other signs asked circus-goers to become an "elefriend." People continued to buy tickets for elephant rides just a few yards away from the demonstration, but that did not discourage the protesters. They stood together in support of animal rights as a long line of cars trickled into the parking lot. "Our goal is to educate," said Abby Casarella, a Frederick resident who organized the demonstration. --
