Conservation groups around the world are calling on the government to put an end to the exploitation of elephants in Thai cities and towns.

Representatives from more than a dozen organisations in Thailand and abroad converged on Chiang Mai City Hall yesterday to hand a letter to Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva urging the government to take urgent measures against elephants being put to work in urban centres.
