Who on earth are the NAIA?

The National Animal Interest Alliance is a front organization for special interest groups and individuals involved in cattle ranching, fur ranching, biomedical research, hunting, trapping, fishing, dog breeding and even the rodeo. Despite the lucrative profits flowing from exploitation of animals to the board members, businesses and agencies they represent, the site solicits donations to "promote the welfare of animals and to strengthen the human-animal bond ..." according to it's Mission Statement.
The NAIA actively promotes hunting and trapping as well as fur ranching and factory farming. It's odd, I've never thought of a trapper or hunter as actually bonding with an animal. Seems a bit one sided. Pressing issues on the agenda include the protection of such sacred practices as dog ear cropping, tail docking, declawing of cats and even the debarking (cutting the vocal chords) of dogs.
Their primary concern however, appears to be protecting their bread and butter, er, that is "protecting the targets of the dread animal extremism." Some of the examples from their long list of exploits include Bridgit Bardot critisizing a Muslim goat sacrifice and the unauthorized removing of animals from farms and fur ranches. I guess some of us might consider critisisms like this to be freedom of speech of the higher, more compassionately motivated sort. However, the NAIA will have none of it! Some might even view the thefts of these animals to be more on the altruistic level, perhaps even more appropriately termed rescues. After all, these are animals who are doomed to be annally electricuted, clubbed to death or skinned alive and /or wallowing in their own filth in tiny cages, etc.
There is in fact, not one instance of an actual terrorist activity that constitutes bodily harm, simply the destruction of property, which hits most corporations where they live. There is actually not an instance on record, anywhere, of true, physical terrorism by an animal rights or eco rights group that I am aware of. Animal rights and rescue groups practice pacifism (which does not include property used to abuse, torture or kill animals).
All said, this is an almost comically transparent agenda pushing group of entreprenuers, researchers and sportsmen, posturing as welfare advocates. Apparently, there is more safety in numbers (the only motivation I can think of for this site). They are outraged, they are indignant and they are afraid of losing their collective shirts, grant monies, tenures and breeding licences, but not much else. The NAIA is a serious comic rival to the infamous Center for Consumer Freedom in it's excess of syrupy hyperbole, for example:
"Recognize that human-animal interactions take many forms!"
The home page for this site is complete with adorable pictures of puppies and a little girl snuggling up to a kitten! I did not notice any pictures of the other fun activities they promote. What? No slaughter houses, trapped or skinned animals? They should be a cinch to obtain first hand from their very own members of the board. Sharon Beck is "a fourth generation cattle rancher as well as a member of the National Cattleman's Beef Association" Lt. Col. Dennis Foster (ret.), is the executive director of Master of Foxhounds Assoc. According to his bio, "he has testified before the U.S. Congress as an expert witness in court cases and legislative hearings, often dealing with issues such as habitat and hunting with hounds." In their Hunting and Fishing section, they seem profoundly upset and confused that the animal extremists have failed to recognize the valuable contribution that hunters have made to "habitat conservation, needy families and education."
The site administrator and National Director is Patty Strand, an AKC Dalmation breeder. She has also apparently devoted much of her life to ensuring that animals never see the light of day with numerous scholarly articles and even a book, co-written with her husband, Rod. Other notables on the board include Fr. Michael Manning, MD. He is the coordinator of Respect Life Ministries in Trenton, NJ and devotes much of his pastorial presence to defending the unique right and sanctity of human exploitation of animals, from the biblical perspective. Also, Adrian Morrison, DVM, PhD who has published 110 papers on the mechanisms of sleep. Although this accomplishment alone should be enough to ensure his proper place on the board of this ridiculous organization, he has also edited "five books" (topics unknown).
