POM-maker of pomegranate juice and tea-has tormented and killed untold numbers of animals by funding cruel and pointless experiments, none of which is required by law.

Other companies, including Naked Juice, Old Orchard, and Frutzzo, make delicious and healthy 100 percent pomegranate juice without harming animals-yet POM has paid experimenters to do the following:

- Lock week-old mouse pups, whose mothers were fed pomegranate juice, in a chamber with almost no oxygen for 45 minutes, causing severe brain damage-the babies were then decapitated and their brains were removed for study

- Critically damage the arteries of rabbits to simulate erectile dysfunction-a bizarre attempt to show that drinking pomegranate juice might alleviate this ailment

- Induce heart disease (atherosclerosis) in mice who were fed POM-the mice were then killed and cut open to examine their hearts

What You Can Do

Check out your local health-food and grocery stores to see if they carry POM. If they do carry the juice, politely explain to the manager what POM does to animals, and urge that he or she stop stocking POM until the company ends its animal tests. Suggest that the store instead carry Frutzzo's, Old Orchard's, or Naked's pomegranate juice-the perfect alternatives for health-conscious, compassionate people. Be sure to let us know how it goes!
