Certain images of the polar bear have lodged themselves deeply into the
popular subconscious. The aerial shot of a lone one
swimming out at sea where ice sheets used to be, for example, or a
mother and her cubs
emerging from their den after months of hibernation. But a First Science
documentary gives the world a view even more rare: that of huskies
scampering and cuddling with polar bears capable of eating them for a midday
snack. "Two natural predators in empathy," the voice-over muses. "How is it
that [these] dogs and these bears seem to have reached such a remarkable
understanding?" There's just no telling. Regardless, they make the cutest
darn Arctic pair ever.
