Two baby red pandas (despite the name, they are not bears) born at
Amsterdam's Artis Zoo were abandoned by their mother and relegated to an
incubator existence. Yet a zookeeper's house cat, which had just given
birth, came to the rescue, allowing the two newborns to nurse alongside her
kittens. Though one of the pair died after less than two weeks, the
remaining orphaned red panda was cared for by the cat for several more
months, until the little cub could start eating bamboo and fruit on its own.
