| Area group: Vandalism
"wrong way" to help animals
By the Iowa City Press-Citizen
The group's statement:
"Citizens for Animal Rights of Eastern-Iowa
(CARE) believes in legal activism. The actions that the ALF did at the
university may have been heroic in the fact that they helped liberate
animals who were suffering and may have stopped this barbaric research,
but we feel that this was the wrong way to go about helping animals. CARE
fully disagrees with any animal research as it can not be extrapolated
to humans, and much research being done is needless. The ALF stated recently
that one of the researchers at the university "addicts primates and
rats to cocaine, methamphetamine, and PCP in redundant drug experiments."
The effects of these drugs can be easily studied through human research
in clinical studies. We already know that these drugs affect the human
mind's capability of functioning properly. We agree with the ALF that
animal experiments should come to an end, but we cannot condone or support
their actions. We only hope that this event has taught the community on
how barbaric animal experiments are and how they should not be funded."
