Philosophy > General AR Philosophy Rights v welfare The logic is pretty simple, despite tangents by "rightists": Assumption/Statement 1. A person/organization wants basic rights for animals. 2. For animals to have basic rights the masses must agree/vote to provide them. If these assumptions are correct, the strategy to accomplish this is the strategy to most quickly convert the masses to believing in animal rights. What strategy does this? Nobody knows for certain. What is the best way to estimate the fastest path to "enlightenment?" One method to gather data would be to talk to people who currently believe in rights and ask what path they took. We have gathered data on this question for decades. Not surprisingly, almost all of us who now believe in rights evolved into the position by first supporting welfare (few became vegan overnight). We firmly believe that the fastest way to convert people to believing in animal rights is to get them to take a few steps in that direction, and the overwhelming majority resist if presented with animal rights positions. We have data showing that the effects on the masses of after robbing graves. The masses ultimately separate the principles from the people. We are still gathering data. As the saying goes, "Without reliable data you are just another person with an opinion."
