THIS IS WHAT THE "BRAVE" AMERICAN SOLDIERS ARE DOING FOR FUN IN IRAQ.
IT'S DISGUSTING. THEY ARE HEARTLESS BARBARIANS, NOT SOLDIERS WHO SERVE THEIR COUNTRY.
THE WHOLE WORLD SHOULD KNOW ABOUT THIS.
This is a video of several US soldiers throwing rocks and laughing at a poor dog with a very severe spinal deformity, who was obviously suffering even before they started abusing him. I was conflicted about posting this because, in a sense, what can we do except feel angry and helpless. But I think we can do a lot.
First of all, I'm hoping someone will recognize these cruel individuals so they can be reported for animal cruelty.
Secondly, we can register at the site to comment about their behavior (I've registered and am awaiting a confirmation email so that I can comment).
Almost as disturbing (or maybe more so) than the video, are the comments of callous, cruel wastes of human protoplasm who thought it was "cool" or amusing.
I cannot sit idly by and do nothing after seeing that video.
I have posted an alert on congress.org about it:
I am home sick today, nursing a migraine, but plan to contact the media, as well.
If you can do any of the above to reinforce my actions, it would be greatly appreciated. The site congress.org can not only link you to your elected officials, but also put you in touch with the media (in fact you can write to 5 different sources at one time). Also, if you think of anything else we can do, please let me know.
Thank you in advance for caring! And thank you to all of you who have written in support of efforts to do something about this.
PS: Registering at the site of the video (liveleak) to post a comment appears to be a waste of time, as I have still not received an email from them to confirm my registration (it's been over 12 hours) and, therefore, cannot post.
Addendum: I would like to think, as one person who wrote me suggested, that this type of behavior among soldiers is the exception rather than the rule. We have read the horror stories of the soldiers who raped, tortured, and killed civilians in Iraq. But we have also read heart-warming stories of soldiers helping (and, in some cases, even adopting) kids and animals. Our military knows how to entice these young kids to sign up for service. Many of them do not have a clue what they are getting into.
We are all conglomerations of good, bad, and lots of stuff in between. I don't think any of us is perfect or totally innocent (except, maybe, Mother Theresa, and she's dead). Therefore, I am careful not to judge too quickly or to generalize or stereotype.
The soldiers in this video, however, are displaying a very disturbing indifference to the suffering of a sentient creature. They must be called on their behavior.
