FERNDALE -- A national animal rights group has again taken aim at two Sullivan County farms that produce most of the nation's foie gras.

The Animal Legal Defense Fund, a California-based organization, has filed a lawsuit in state Supreme Court in Albany that revives a claim that the duck-liver delicacy is a diseased and adulterated food product.

The lawsuit names the state Department of Agriculture and Markets, Commissioner Darrel J. Aubertine, Hudson Valley Foie Gras, Bella Poultry and La Belle Farms. Hudson Valley Foie Gras is the nation's largest producer. Bella Poultry and La Belle Farms are affiliated with each other.
