UW student helps bring first vegan food festival to Madison [Madison Vegan Examiner] Inspired by vegetarian and vegan festivals such as Chicagos Veggie Fest and Portland VegFest, University of Wisconsin-Madison music-education student Hannah West decided, Madison should totally have one of these. Last fall, West began searching for a local organization that could take the idea and run with it. She contacted Lynn Pauly, co-director of Alliance for Animals, a nonprofit organization that promotes ethical, compassionate treatment of all animals and creators of the Simply Vegan campaign. Pauly liked the idea of a plant-based food festival, and agreed to sponsor the event, provided the event was vegan, and West did most of the legwork. West agreed, and Mad City Vegan Fest was born. --
