layout are checked with Internet Explorer.

by Veggies - see Veggies Diary for events
at which Veggies are providing food, transport and further information.
Campaign organisers: please send provisional dates To
maximise support for campaigns it is essential to minimise clashes. Some of
the dates are unconfirmed entries, based on the possible repeat of events held
in previous years.
If you can confirm event details please send feedback
Organisers of high profile campaigns could also submit details to http://www.protest.net/ - the
worldwide listing of protest events, the Schnews Guide -

Stop the Badger Killers This cruel, futile, tax-wasting badger slaughter has been stopped until
the beginning of May, but keep checking website for latest details. Help is
needed to 'monitor' the killing areas and individuals take action to save

Speak Out Against Vivisection
- After failing to build a primate vivisection lab at Cambridge (
SchNEWS
439), mad scientists are now trying a more subtle approach by building
an “animal housing facility” at Oxford University, which will (surprise!) be
doing some of the same research that was going to be done at Cambridge. In a
desperate attempt to hoodwink the public, the new project has been
euphemistically called a research “hotel” in the planning application. Some
Hotel!—Where you get kept in solitary wire cages, injected with drugs,
deliberately brain damaged and then killed. In response to this latest
development, the campaign that stopped the Cambridge lab has been
resurrected to fight the new proposals.

Save the Newchurch Guinea Pigs
- Regular demos from 11am at Darley Oaks, (A515) Newchurch, Staffs [map] on Wednesdays and Sundays, and empty days/evenings
that need filling.
For over 30 years now, David Hall and Partners of Newchurch
near Burton-on-Trent, Staffordshire, UK have been breeding guinea pigs to
sell to vivisection laboratories. There are 10,000 guinea pigs there at any
one time living in disgusting conditions, waiting to be to be tortured to
death at the hands of this brutal industry. Today and every day 55 people
die due to adverse drug reactions in the UK alone. "The moral is that animal
model systems not only kill animals, they also kill humans!" Dr Irwin Bross,
former director of the world's largest cancer research institute. David Hall
and Partners continue to profit from this scientific fraud and massive abuse
of life, human and guinea pig alike.

Mayday anti-capitalist Day of Action
- London Animal Action is organising a major protest against capitalism
and human and animal exploitation on May 1st 2004. Under the banner, 'Kill
Capitalism, Not Animals!' we will be marching through central London and
targetting companies such as McDonald's and fur shops, of which there are
many in the area. There are other one-off targets as well, including a
bloodsports shop and the HQ of the Resarch Defence Society, the group whose
only reason for existing is defending the torture and murder of laboratory
animals.
We are inviting other groups to join us and bring their own banners.
Let's make this as big as possible and show the state it can't intimidate
us. Tell everyone you know to join us by assembling at Piccadilly Circus, by
the statue of Eros, at 12noon on May 1st.
