Congress will soon enact new legislation to protect dairymen during hard
economic times.

Milk producers will be paid tax dollars which, at this writing, no longer
exist because 20 percent of Americans who once paid taxes no longer do, and
because those tax dollars which Congress oversees are used for important
things such as smart bombs and F-16 aviation fuel to keep people living in
Iowa safe from dangerous people living in Afghanistan and Iraq.
I
once learned in Kindergarten that America was free because we had Capitalism
and not Communism and that if there was a need for a product, this would
produce opportunity for entrepreneurial Americans to build businesses and
create supplies to satisfy the demands.
We were never taught the word
'subsidy'.
So, in 2011, in a market where there is a decreasing
demand, we are encouraging an increasing supply and have a government agency
(USDA) purchasing the surplus which sits in caves and rots, or is sent to
our friends in Afghanistan or Iraq as foreign aid.
Private cave
owners are paid millions of dollars in rent so that those surplus dairy
products can be stored. And were does the money to pay that rent come from?
Don't ask.
