Tribute to Shirley animal rights campaigner

A MIDLAND woman who devoted her life to campaigning for animal rights will be remembered at a fund raising event tomorrow.

Ursula Bates set up Solihull Animal Aid in 1992, spoke in hundreds of schools and protested against live veal exports at Baginton airport near Coventry, alongside her friend Jill Phipps, who was killed there in 1995.

Liz Armour used to meet the 71-year-old at animal charity fairs and decided to organise one in her honour.
