Beatrice Arthur Says: "Take Back Your Minks"
Beatrice Arthur, devoted animal rights advocate, recently sent a powerful message to
more than 200 legislators in our nation's capital.
As a gesture of thanks, the actress sent single yellow roses to 232 members of the
House of Representatives who voted to end a $2 million annual export subsidy given to the
U.S. mink industry for overseas promotions and fashion shows. Accompanying each rose was a
signed card by Arthur that read, in part, "Thank you for being a friend," which
was the theme song to her long-running hit TV series, "The Golden Girls."
Looks like this "Golden Girl" also has a golden heart when it comes to our
animal friends. Thanks, Bea! We love you!
