Bardot Pecks Pontiff

At the Vatican, legendary sex kitten, Brigitte Bardot, recently greeted Pope John Paul II with a kiss on the hand. The two chatted briefly, the Pope holding her hand in his. Said Brigitte: "I have come to see the Pope because he is one of the great world personalities and I hope he can play a role in our battle."

The 'battle' to which she refers is her ongoing fight for animal rights. Bardot visited the Pope along with 40 members of an animal rights group to convince him that all of God's creatures deserve protection. The warm reception marked an about-face for the Vatican, which years earlier had criticized the 1956 film that brought Bardot into the spotlight, "And God Created Woman."
