Loving Arms

[For the 60,000 unwanted pets euthanized each day and countless others left on the streets,
Earthlings (2003) documentary, section on animals bred as pets]

I was a puppy, a kitten, a tiny bunny...
One of thousands brought into your world each day.
I looked forward to your loving arms,
I wanted to give my love in return.

Now I am among the thousands each day,
Hoping for the merciful injection rather than another method,
Asking only that the kind shelter worker
Hold me in loving arms as I go.
