Joanne Rose was kind enough to take a
few moments out of her busy schedule to answer some questions for us. Here's
what she had to say:
Welcome, Joanne! What part of the world do you live
in?
"Australia most of the time, but I do live in the
USA also."
What projects have you worked on that our
visitors might recognize?
I have done several short feature films that
premiered at film festivals in Melbourne, Australia. I also had one of my
movies "Empty Room" open at Melbourne's infamous Cinema Nova. Other
projects that the public may have seen me in is the Australian TV Soap
"Neighbors", "Entertainment Tonight", Australian TV drama "Blue Heelers".
"Child Star" and "Blonde" were US TV movies I were in but
unfortunately my scenes ended up on the cutting room floor.
Do you have an official
website?
"Yes!
Joanne Rose Online Portfolio."
Do you have any
pets?
"Yes. A male Budgerigar which is a small
parakeet, Australian love-bird, named "Mr Eagle". I had a 17 year old female
Persian cat named Dusty, who passed over in 1999."
What are your feelings about vegan pet
food?
"I am very in favor of this. I think it is a
fantastic idea and it is wonderful how well we as Vegans can
substitute with natural, cruelty-free
ingredients."
How long have you been
vegetarian?
"Since my mid teens."
How long have you been
vegan?
"Since 1994."
Why did you become
vegetarian/vegan?
"My admiration of Actor, River Phoenix and my love
of all creatures great and small drew me to this lifestyle. You cannot truly
love Animals if you choose to eat them. It bothers me that there are
dietitians out there who encourage people to eat meat and dairy. They believe
that eating red meat gives you the essential iron intake you need. Does
that mean that because a Sports Athlete has a good iron, I am
allowed to eat him/her?! It's ridiculous. You can get all the right
vitamins and minerals from being a Vegan. You can also take vitamin
supplements to enhance your dietary needs."
What benefits have you experienced since
veg*n?
"Healthier."
Are other members of your family
vegan/vegetarian?
"My brother, Scott and his girlfriend Sarah are
Vegans. My parents are both Vegetarian. I have successfully introduced the
Vegan lifestyle to former meat eaters and they are much more positive, healthy
people." What would you say to others to encourage
them to become vegetarian/vegan?
"Try the products. You will find you can eat all
your favorite foods as healthier substitutes. There is fake Bacon, Chicken
Nuggets, Burgers etc. available out there. I would also suggest
people look on the Internet, go to the Library, bookstore and health
store for Vegan information and read upon the realities of what the poor
Animals have to suffer through. Meat is always disguised. They use flavor
enhancers to rid the taste of raw flesh."
What are your favorite
snacks?
"I love these Vegan snacks: fruit cake,
rice crackers, mocha fudge, chocolate, baked corn chips, sorbet, nuts
etc." What are your favorite
foods/meals?
"Rice balls, tofu burgers, wheat-free vegan pizza,
Nachos, Tacos, Chinese food, fruit salads, vegetable salads, wheat-free bread
etc."
Care to share a recipe with our
visitors?

to!"
