'Red'

Run free at the rainbow bridge...

A song for a beautiful dog called Red who was stolen from his family and brutally tortured. Gentle Red must have suffered terribly in his final hours and his suffering is unimaginable. We believe crimes of this nature inflicted upon defenceless animals should be punished by the strictest sentences possible in law.

There is a petition calling for harsher sentences for animal abusers in the UK, please click the link below to sign and share -

HARSHER SENTENCES FOR ANIMAL ABUSERS

When we decided to write a song for Red we asked Frances, Red's owner, to tell us a little about their beautiful dog. It is obvious, in the words Frances wrote below, that our companion animals hold an important, unique and unforgettable place in our lives and in our hearts and the devastation we feel when we lose a precious friend is very hard to bear.

'Red was a gentle boy and everyone who met him loved him. Red loved the bed and sofa like most dogs but he was at his best running and sniffing in the corn fields in the summer. Red loved his food and basking in the sunshine and dancing in the snow. We have begun helping unwanted dogs find new homes and we call ourselves "Reds Rescue" I think Red would like that.'

Please read the press release below, explaining what happened to Red and please pass on this information to help raise awareness. Animal cruelty hurts the innocent and those who care for them.

Together we can make a difference and help to prevent these heinous crimes.

Thank you,
Maria & Paul
xx

Red, a three year old male cross breed dog was stolen from his owner's garden in Grove Hill, Essex Mead, Hemel Hempstead, UK on Sunday 7th November 2010. Two men were seen loitering in the area at the time.

Red was found in a traumatised state near his owner's home on Monday evening. He had been brutally tortured. He had cigarette burns to his ears, puncture marks on his body and the base of his tail snapped leaving him with no control over his bowel and bladder. Red was sadly put to sleep on Tuesday 9th November to end his suffering.

It is suspected that Red was used and tortured by evil individuals involved with dog fighting and dragged or swung around by his tail causing the fracture.

Frances McGrath, Red's owner who has been totally devastated by this heinous act of cruelty states "Red was the most gentle and trusting dog. He was a quiet, loving, loyal companion. He loved watching the telly. He was dearly loved. He would have been totally defenceless against the cruel acts inflicted on him. His torturers and killers must be caught before they do this again to another cherished pet".

Helen Stevens co-ordinator of South West Animal Protection says "Allegedly, another pet has been reported as being stolen in the area and so to prevent another tragedy we are giving an important warning to all dog owners in and around the area to be on the alert and not to leave their precious dogs unattended at any time.

We are hoping that the RSPCA put all their resources into catching these evil individuals, they are already working on this case.

Red deserves justice and we are now appealing for the public's help. Please could any residents in the immediate area with CCTV check for possible video evidence showing two males walking with 'Red'. Any information and evidence should be given to the RSPCA immediately".

Also South West Animal Protection are appealing for any witnesses who may have information relating to this incident. Please contact Inspector Fisher, collar number 827, at the RSPCA immediately.

Please telephone the RSPCA cruelty line on 0300 1234 999.

Red's owner is offering a reward for any information leading to a prosecution.

'Red'

Red is the colour of my pain
I heard bad news again
Life is so unkind
Blue is the picture on my screen
I cry for where you've been
A victim of a crime

Red is the anger soaring high
The apple of their eye
The friend they loved so much
Red you were beautiful you know
Only love can ever grow
In hearts that need it so

Why do the angels fly away
When there's so much more to say
Questions I must ask
Red is the colour of a flame
The sun that lights the day
Something special in a name

You shouldn't be beneath the ground
You should be here with us now
But they made you go away
I'll scream for mercy if it helps
You've a story I must tell
This is something I must say

There's a light up in the sky
And it's shining through your eyes
Stars are teardrops oh so bright
Love is the hand that always holds
When this world is bitter cold
We are with you through the night

Red we are with you precious friend
And our love will never end
Nothing changes though you're gone
You have a place within our hearts
Time and loss cannot surpass
The truest love will carry on...

You shouldn't be beneath the ground
You should be here with us now
But they made you go away
I'll scream for mercy if it helps
You've a story I must tell
This is something I must say

There's a light up in the sky
And it's shining through your eyes
Stars are teardrops oh so bright
Love is the hand that always holds
When this world is bitter cold
We are with you through the night
There's a light up in the sky
And it's shining through your eyes
Stars are teardrops oh so bright
Love is the hand that always holds
When this world is bitter cold
We are with you, with you... through the night
Through the night
